MOSCOW -- The 40th edition of the international film festival "Molodist" kicks off in Kiev the Ukrainian capital on Oct. 23.
The country's main international film event, which was started back in Soviet times, focuses on young filmmakers.
About 250 movies are to be screened at this year's festival, which has three competition programs: for first features short films and student films.
Among the feature competition's highlights are Lincz (Lynch) by Polish director Krzyszt of Lukaszewicz Picco by Germany's Philip Koch Drugoye Nebo (Another Sky) by Russia's Dmitriy Mamuliya and the German/Ukrainian/Dutch co-production My Joy by Sergei Loznitsa which premiered at Cannes this year.
Cartagena??, by French director , Alain Monne, , starring Sophie Marceau and Christophe Lambert, , is the opening night movie, while Woody Allen's You Will Meet a Tall Dark Stranger is the closing night movie.
Among the festival's expected special guests are French actors , Gerard Depardieu, Fanny Ardant Sophie Marceau and Christophe Lambert Russian directors Vladimir Menshov and Karen Shakhnazarov and Swedish director Lukas Moodysson, .
The Boat Meeting co-production market, organized in cooperation with the Baltic Event for East, Media International and EAVE, is to be held as part of the festival. The international jury, headed by French director , Marc Caro, , will announce the winner of the festival's Grand Prix, the Scythian Deer, which comes with a $10,000 cash prize, as well as other winners, during the closing ceremony on Oct. 31
